Steam Lament:

A World on a Boiling Surface

Audio/Visual Lecture Performance (2024)

Duration: 30:00 min.

Language: English.

A Stoker ponders the convoluted relationship between human progress and sanity at the ruins of a technological relic. As their mind teeters on the edge, a chaotic discovery seems to emerge.

The research behind this project draws an interwoven network of connections and proximity between Michel Foucoult’s analysis of madness and power dynamics, feminist theorist and physicist Karen Barad’s interpretation of the physical phenomena of diffraction, and Liminality, as conceptualized by anthropologist Victor Turner.

On the backdrop of an unfolding moment of extreme fragility, the work reflects on the paradox of endings as new beginnings through vivid imagery and intense emotion, taping into a haunting meditation on the limits of human endeavor and the inevitability of collapse.
